Sixth Form Lake Challenge Raises A Brilliant £3,627 For Macmillan.

Posted on: 6th Jun 2024

Our Academy has a big commitment to charitable giving, with students voting to choose our school charity each year, then undertaking fundraising challenges to support this cause. This year, we are raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support.

One of our biggest annual fundraising events is the SMMA Lake Challenge: a 10-mile hike around the two lakes in one day. On Monday 20 May 2024, 80 Sixth Form students plus staff headed North to the Lake District to tackle the 'Rydal Round'. After spending Monday night camping out under the stars, our students set off on a day-long hike around the two beautiful lakes of Grasmere Water and Rydal Water, with steep hill climbs offering breathtaking views across the fells.

Our Lake Challenge team completed their fundraising challenge in style with every student reaching the summit of Loughrigg Fell. On Wednesday, they arrived home tired and happy – despite a last-minute dash caused by a train cancellation at Preston!

This year's trip was a great success, with incredibly generous support from families, friends and community, and our students are proud to have raised a brilliant £3,627 so far. A big thank-you goes to everyone who has generously sponsored them or helped make the trip possible, and a huge well done to our students.
