Joy Parke
Director of Learning: Head of Primary Department
Joy has worked in primary and secondary schools in the boroughs of Westminster, Camden, Islington and Enfield, in a variety of roles. Most recently she was deputy head at St James Church of England Primary School in Enfield.
She writes: “I am Head of Primary at the Academy, and delighted to be so. In a way, it’s home from home, as I was born and brought up in Islington; and my parents still live in Liverpool Road. When young, I attended St Mary’s Church in Upper Street.
I have learnt something from each of the jobs I’ve had, in both primary and secondary schools. There’s no substitute for a breadth of experience, if we are open to learning; and to remain open to new things is my intention.
My first year here has been both challenging and fulfilling. I think one’s first 12 months anywhere are primarily about establishing networks of trust, from which good things can happen. It has certainly been a great privilege to get to know and begin work with the very dedicated Primary team here.
Every school is unique; every school an adventure and every school a partnership. I am enjoying playing my part here, but this is an adventure we all share in, children, parents and staff so let us travel together.”
