Team members celebrate becoming regional winners of the Lycamobile Cup

Year 7 team are regional winners of the Lycamobile Cup!

15 December 2016

A report by Ms McNestry

The Year 7 Boys football team were given a great opportunity to take part in the Lycamobile Cup this year. The standard of competition is always very high, so we knew they’d have to be ready for a challenge. And the boys rose to meet it, exceeding expectations to win the tournament in convincing fashion!

The team came first in our group – winning three games and drawing the fourth. The momentum continued in the semi-final where our boys managed to get through with a 1- 0 win.

But they saved the real drama for the final. The game was very close until the final minute – when Sean McIntosh-Chambers burst through to give St Mary Magdalene the lead. Seconds later, captain Archie Cunningham sealed it with an excellent strike from distance.

During the whole event, not only did our team manage to stay unbeaten, but they never conceded a single goal! I think this was a testimony to the hard work and dedication the boys have shown throughout.

It’s too hard for me to pick out a star performer, because every player was fantastic and deserves huge praise.

The squad was as follows:

Harry Hasson
Sean Mcintosh-Chambers
Masaki Fukushima
Logan Janowicz
Quentin Ejeche
Freddie Winfield
Kasey Vaghan
Archie Cunningham

By winning the regional finals, we now advance to the national finals which will be held at the Olympic Stadium. We are all very much looking forward to the occasion.
