20 May 2016
I am writing to you regarding the upcoming exams in Year 10. In the week beginning 20 June, your child will sit mock exams in all of their GCSE subjects. Please download the timetable for when each exam is scheduled. These mock examinations are a crucial preparatory step on the pathway to the final exams in the summer of 2016.
At the start of last term, I wrote to you to inform you of your child’s target grades in maths and English. In 2014, the law changed so that all pupils who do not achieve a ‘C’ grade or better in both GCSE maths and English in their Year 11 exams will be required to re-sit in Year 12 regardless of the path of further education that they chose to follow- vocational or otherwise. Because of the significance to all pupils of this change, we are setting the expectation that all pupils must achieve at least a “4” or better in their English and maths mock exams this summer.
To help your child to prepare for the examinations, we would recommend purchasing revision guides in the subjects that they take for GCSE. It is important for your child to complete ten hours of independent work (homework and revision) per week to ensure the best chance of success. Detailed advice for parents on how to plan and prepare for the revision period can be found on our website (please search for ‘revision’).
Pupils must come fully equipped to their exams with a two pens, a pencil, a ruler, and for maths and science exams, a calculator, compass and protractor. If they bring their exam stationery in a pencil case, it must be made from see-through plastic.
We will post home your child’s results before the end of term. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your support during the revision period and exams. Please do not hesitate to contact me at the Academy if you would like to discuss the exams further.
