Print-making masterclass with artist Bryony Hussey

Last term, fourteen of our young artists from Year 10 and Year 12 enjoyed a hands-on masterclass with visual artist Bryony Hussey.

Our students began their half-day workshop by considering what their personal versions of utopia and dystopia might look like using collage. They developed these into a series of monoprints, where they were encouraged to experiment with the technique and with new materials.

Head of Art, Ms Mair, says, ‘The workshop was excellent: students were able to develop skills in art and design. They were engaged and enjoyed the workshop throughout.’

And the students agree, saying:

‘My favourite thing was the freedom of choice about what to put in the artwork; we weren’t restricted by any guidelines.’

‘It’s made me realise that art can be messy. I liked the freedom of expression in the task.’

The masterclass was organised in association with Cubitt Artists, an Islington arts organisation which offers a free programme of courses for young people, the Institute of Anything.
