What type of governor are you? Support Staff Governor.
Why are you a governor of St Mary Magdalene Academy? Having grown up in Islington, I have seen many changes in our community, but the most exciting change for me has been the opening of the Academy. I was fortunate to secure employment in the primary school that my own children attended. It has been an exciting journey working at the Academy as it develops its identity and presence in this community and I see this as my opportunity to give something back to the Academy.
Which subject at school did you love best—and why? My favourite subject was Social Studies. I really enjoyed learning about the environment I lived in.
What’s your favourite book of all time? I can’t name a single book, but can name a trilogy by Brendan O’Carroll: The Mammy, The Grammy and The Chisellers.
Who was your most memorable / inspiring teacher at school? Mrs Clowber. She was our Russian Teacher. She was fair, patient and consistent. She made learning a very difficult language fun and seem very easy.
What’s your favourite chocolate or ice cream? Definitely chocolate, with a cup of tea, of course.
What are your hopes for St Mary Magdalene Academy? I would like to use the experience I’ve gained as a parent and the skills I’ve developed as a mentor and currently Head of R2R to offer guidance and support while representing the interests of Academy Support Staff to the Academy Governing Body. My hopes for SMMA are that it reflects the wider community with all its diversity, creativity and needs.
