Head of Year 11 letter

13 October 2017

Dear Parent/Carer

It was great to see so many of you at the Year 11 Information Evening on 21 September. If you were unable to attend, please ask your child to see Mr Walmsley to collect the Curriculum Information Booklet. This booklet contains all the course details and recommended booklists for each of the GCSE courses.

The Class of 2018 have started very well and are now getting into good routines of working independently before and after school.

If you have not already, I would recommend taking a look at Show My Homework as all of your child’s homework is logged on there. If you would like your pin number to login, please contact Mr Walmsley or Mr Sumner at the Academy. It is essential that homework is completed on time and to a high standard and once this has been done to then complete further revision independently. As was recommended in the Information Evening, it is important to set up a weekly revision schedule so that your child keeps a healthy balance and at the same time building excellent quality notes which will become useful towards exam time. Enclosed with this letter is a blank revision schedule which we would recommend your child completes on a weekly basis.

To keep you up-to-date with some important upcoming dates:

• On Wednesday 15 November, we would like to welcome you to the Sixth Form Open Evening where we will be able to give you key information about the Sixth Form including course details and entry requirements.

• The mock exams (click here for the December timetable) start on the week beginning 11 December and will run for two weeks. During this time, your child will sit full exam papers in exam conditions. It is important that your child starts their preparations now.

• It never feels too early to mention the Leavers’ Ball which will take place on Thursday 10 May 2018. The Leavers’ Ball provides pupils with a chance to celebrate their time at the Academy with the staff who have enjoyed worked with them. The evening consists of a trip on M.V.Erasmus up and down the Thames with food, music and dancing along the way. The event is priced at £35 per pupil and covers the cost of transport to and from the boat, a light buffet and music. The payment service is now open on ParentPay and the full amount is due by 1 April 2018.

• The GCSE exams start on the week beginning 14 May and will run to the beginning of July. We will publish a full exam timetable closer to the time.

• Finally, the all-important Results Day will take place on Thursday 23 August.  Sixth Form enrolment will take place on the same day for pupils who have met the entry criteria.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress, please get in touch.

Yours sincerely

John Reardon
