12 March 2015
Last Thursday was World Book Day – the 18th since the event was created in 1997. A celebration of books, reading, authors and illustrators, World Book Day has grown each year with many hundreds of events taking place across the UK in 2015.
As well as being fun for students and staff, the Day draws everyone’s attention to the importance of reading and books. So we like to go to town over it! This year’s activities – expertly planned by our school Librarian Emma Wallace – included special assemblies, a Design A Book Cover competition, and a Read Dating session for Y7. And at 10am, everyone in school dropped whatever they were doing to pick up a book and read for 20 minutes.
Around 70 staff dressed as their favourite book characters –from Tintin to Lady Macbeth. Congratulations to Big Brother Mr Bowles, who won the best costume, and to the pupils in Mr Sheehan’s Guardian group for identifying the most characters with 50 correct.
See what your children – and their teachers – got up to on the day, below!
