Activities Week 2018

10 November 2017

Dear Parent/Carer

Activities Week: 16-20 July 2018

Activities Week falls on the last week of the summer term, and is an exciting week of residential trips and activities that the pupils choose from a variety of options. Following the success of last year, this year’s events will take place from Monday 16 to Friday 20 July.

We are sending out this initial letter so that you and your child can decide whether they would like to go on a residential trip or would prefer to take part in activities during school hours.

The residential trips are a fantastic opportunity for pupils to experience something different, stay away from home and spend time with their peer groups. The key details are below for each year group’s residential options:

*Pupils will be asked to bring an additional €10-15 as a security deposit for the hotel. This money will be returned to them upon check-out if there are no issues.

Please also be aware that the residential trip options require early deposits for us to secure the bookings.

Year 7 and 8 Residential: Bay of Naples, Italy

We will travel by minibus to depart from Gatwick Airport to fly to Naples. The trip will include 3 night’s accommodation in the beautiful Italian Bay of Naples with all meals included. We will explore ancient ruins in the Roman city of Pompeii; climb to the top of the dormant volcano Mount Vesuvius as well as relax on the beach and enjoy the picturesque coastal town of Sorrento. You will need a passport that is valid until January 2019 to be eligible for this trip.

Year 9 and 10 Residential: Valencia, Spain

We will travel from Luton Airport to fly to Alicante Airport. The trip will include 3 nights’ accommodation close to Valencia, the City of the Arts and the Sciences. Breakfast will be provided each day at the hotel, in the evenings we will visit different Spanish restaurants which is included in the price of the trip.

We will go to the Science and Oceanographic Museums as well as spend a day at the water park of Aquopolis. We will also visit the Fallas Museum, the Bioparc Open Zoo and experience a boat trip around Lake Albufera. You will need a passport that is valid until January 2019 to be eligible for this trip.

Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 Residential: Taize, France

This is a special week for young people from various countries as well as England. We will travel by coach to the Taize community in central France, a Christian pilgrimage site dedicated to peace. Each day includes a reflection, small international discussion groups, practical activities and prayer for the whole community. It is open and accessible to those who are not religious, other faiths and those who have no faith. The evenings are for relaxing and socializing and the accommodation will be in tents and dormitories. You will need a passport that is valid until January 2019 to be eligible for this trip.

If your child is interested in a residential activity, please ensure they collect a more detailed letter from the appropriate Lead Teacher(s) from Friday 17 November 2017, as noted on the first page.

Deposits are non-refundable and must be paid via ParentPay by Friday 1 December. ParentPay will be open from Friday 17 November.

There are a limited number of spaces for each trip and pupils will be allowed to attend based on their attendance and behaviour records.

Should pupils decide not to go on a residential trip, they will have the choice of a number of other activities to take part in during school hours. The full Activities Booklet will be sent out in February as these activities are still in the planning stages; however, below are some examples of what has been on offer in previous years. Costs range from £10 to £150 but will be confirmed in the Activities Booklet.

Every child will have the opportunity to take part in an enjoyable and enriching end to this academic year and I look forward to the children making their choices.
