A fabulous set of GCSE results!

25 August 2017

Victoria Linsley, Headteacher of the Secondary School, writes:

The 2017 GCSEs are a fabulous set of results – congratulations to all the pupils, their families and teachers. It is only a true team effort that generates these outcomes.

In a year of huge pressure with the new, harder GCSEs in mathematics and English, as well as all the other demanding GCSEs, the Year 11s have been tremendously successful. I am incredibly pleased with the headline figures, which are well above the national figures released in the press yesterday at every ‘benchmark’ (the old C+ grade, the new 4+ grade, the new 5+ grade and the new 8 and 9 grades).

Particularly pleasing are the number of very top grades at the Academy (9 or A** grades) which have only been awarded to approximately 3% of pupils across the country. We were thrilled to find that 10% of the pupils achieved the 9 in English and 7% the 9 in mathematics – what an achievement!

Congratulations to our top performer, Sidal Daghan, who achieved 9,9,9 in the new maths, English language and English literature, and 8 A* grades.

Here are the headlines for our GCSE results:

74% with 4+ (old C grade) including English and mathematics

27% with A-A* or 7-9 grades (national figure 20%)

100 with A* in Mandarin

100 with A*-C in Spanish, physics, biology, chemistry, religious studies

10% with 9 grade (A**) in English

7% with 9 grade (A**) in maths
