Primary newsletter

9 September 2016

Dear Parents and Carers

It’s an absolute pleasure to write my first newsletter as the Head of St Mary Magdalene Primary. The staff and children have made me feel very much at home this week – it is a privilege to work with them. I’d like to extend this warm welcome to the new members of staff and children who have joined the school this September. Everyone has been settling in very well after a well-deserved summer break.

Having worked as Deputy Headteacher of a local Islington Church of England primary school for the past five years, the move to St Mary Magdalene felt like a perfect fit. The school has an excellent reputation locally and I was delighted to be offered the role by the governors. After my appointment, I was fortunate to spend time getting to know more about the school from Mrs Parke and Mrs Rowe and I’d like to thank them for their years of service to the school and for their support during the transition. Mr Standing and I have a tough act to follow, but we know we’re building on very strong foundations.

My priority as Head is to ensure the school continues along its journey of success. I believe the best schools are focused on, amongst other things, delivering excellent teaching at all levels, providing wide range of challenging and exciting opportunities for children and building strong relationships between families and staff based on trust and mutual support. I believe that education is at its best when it is a partnership between home and school and that together we will support the children to achieve their very best. I’d like to say a huge thank you for such a warm welcome on the school gates over the last week and how much I appreciate your best wishes in this exciting new school year.

Please read through the curriculum letters being sent home - they contain lots of useful information about what your child will be learning this term and important dates for your diaries. If you have any questions, please do contact your class teacher in the first instance or Donna in the office, if you’d like to book an appointment with me. Otherwise myself and Mr Standing, the deputy, can found in the playground at the beginning and the end of the school day.

I’m looking forward to getting to know the staff, you and the pupils more over this term and am certain that this will be a very successful year for us all.

Kind Regards

Ruth Luzmore
Primary School Headteacher
