Year 5 National Maritime Museum
1 December 2011
Dear Parent/Carer
As part of this term’s unit of inquiry: Man-made structures have played an important part in human expression throughout history, we will be visiting the National Maritime Museum on Thursday 8 December.
Our visit will involve a lively and engaging session where children will be set a challenge by the architect of the Queen’s House, to explore the shapes and patterns of the building’s structure and decoration. Through examining paintings, sketching and handling objects, children will develop their observational skills and their understanding of how buildings are designed and built.
We will be at the museum during lunchtime so please provide your child with a packed lunch. If your child receives free school meals and you would like a school packed lunch, please indicate below.
We will be taking the overland from Highbury and Islington to Shadwell then the DLR to Cutty Sark. We plan to leave school at 10.30am. We will be leaving the National Maritime Museum at approximately 2.00pm in order to get back to school at 3.30pm. We will let school know if there are any delays which mean we will be late.
If you would be available to accompany us on the trip please indicate this on the permission slip below.
Thank you very much
