Royal Bank of Canada presents to Y12
By Lorenzo Brewer, Y12
When the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) presented to us recently, we were told about the RBC Academy, where entrants are given financial aid and a job opportunity at the end of their studies, courtesy of RBC. The competition for places is intense, but everyone seemed keen and many people talked about applying after the session.
Everyone had a really good day. We found it really engaging, and the representatives from RBC kept the day interesting. First, they talked to us about the opportunities in the City and explained the different roles people play in a typical City bank. They went on to explain how incredibly culturally and nationally diverse the Square Mile is, and that no one should be daunted because they did not fit the profile of the typical City banker.
We were told about the major economic capitals of the world, and that London, for the past few years, had been the economic centre. They told us that there were hundreds of opportunities to make a good living in a great place.
The highlight of the day however, was the Stock Exchange game. Everyone really enjoyed playing the game and taking risks which made money!
We had a great day and the RBC made a great impression on our year!
