at the tiger enclosure in the wildlife park

The Spanish trip

7 April 2010

By Chelsea Mulcare, Jeannelle Brew and Kiah Joseph

Day 1

Leaving the Academy, everyone was bursting with excitement and anticipating what the trip would hold. It was a long journey but there were no glitches. After 14 hours on the coach from the ferry through France and into Spain, spirits were slightly deflated, both for teachers and students.

Gruffly staggering off the coach with stiff movements, we made our way into the hostel to embrace our home for the next few days.

Later on, after everyone had been assigned their rooms, we made our way down to the beach, where we went to look at unas focas – seals, in an enclosure, and then went for a walk in the park surrounding it and people got more wet than planned when charging into the sea.

Day 2

This day was busy. We set off early in the morning to go to the wildlife park, which was mesmerising. To see the wildlife in such surrounding is stimulating. Then in the afternoon we headed to the shopping mall, where our Spanish was put to the ultimate test.

Back at the hostel we went to dinner were we had a familiar meal of pizza and chips, which everyone was glad to consume. Then, a quiz night about the trip so far, in which Ms Jones’ group was officially confirmed to be the best, winning by 29 points out of 35. And six bars of chocolate.

Day 3

It was an even earlier start today. We promptly left after breakfast and headed out to the El Soplao Caves for an unforgettable tour. The caves were wet and damp, but filled with fascinating stone types and shapes, stalactites and stalagmites.

After the caves we headed down to the local beach to eat our lunch, then on to a small Spanish town to do a spot of souvenir shopping and even have an extra bite to eat in a local restaurant.

Finally it was disco time, which everyone was looking forward to. It was a frenzy of hair straighteners, make up and heel. Surprisingly, the boys took longer to get ready than the girls!

But the party was soon in full swing with a mixture of signature dance moves and songs and it came to a close after everyone was danced out and it was time for bed. Making our last night in Spain an eventful one.
