Sixth Form trip to Rome
25 March 2010
The first Sixth Form trip has been a roaring success so far, and it's only Tuesday! After a sleepy 3am start on Monday we all arrived safely in Roman sunshine and 20 degrees – much more fun than Monday morning at school. After a nap to regain our energy on Monday we set out to explore the city and find our bearings – the kids were out cold by 10pm!
Tuesday we caught the Rome Metro to the Vatican City State after a slow start from the sleepy heads. The half-mile queue for St Peter's Basilica was worth it, as we were amazed by the awe inspiring decoration, art and architecture. The afternoon saw us visit the Vatican Museum, and after a long trek through endless corridors we found the Sistine Chapel. What stood out most was how all the statues from antiquity had been censored during the 18th century using a hammer!
In the evening we enjoyed a slap up meal, Italian style, which gave the girls a chance to show off their new purchases. Unfotunately, Georgia's new Romanesque (complete with heels) sandals proved a size too small and she required a piggy back home! More to follow...
