End of year letter

17 July 2015

Dear Parent/Carer

It has been another eventful year with many fantastic highlights, you and your own sons and daughters will have their own. For us here within our family of schools it is hard to get beyond the continuing support we receive from you and from the students every day. All the comments we receive from our many visitors usually centre on the unique atmosphere within the Academy and the strength of relationships between all staff and students. It is this collective support for our ethos which brings out the best in the Academy.

We are looking forward with confidence to what we believe will be our best ever GCSE results. We have already received our IB results and these are our best ever! With an average point score per student of 33.4 (a quite exceptional score) the vast majority of our students are now looking forward to taking up their first or second choice university offers. Personal highlights include Kailin Solomons who scored 44/45 and it is off to Durham University and Georgina Hislop whose 43/45 secured her a place at New College Oxford. A further four students also scored more than 40 points.

Not to be outdone our Year 6 have outperformed our very high expectations of them. As our constant urging is for each of our students to do their ‘personal best’ the most pleasing analysis is of their progress since Year 2:

90% gained or exceeded expected progress in Reading (73% exceeded)
100% gained or exceed expected progress in Writing (79% exceeded)
93% gained or exceeded expected progress in mathematics (76% exceeded)

These figures are significantly above National Performance and the performance in other Islington Schools.

With our academic success and the great successes we have in sport, drama, music as well as other extra-curricular activities it is small wonder that we are the most oversubscribed school in Islington and indeed in North London.

To respond to this demand the Governors have opened up an additional 18 Governors Aptitude places in Year 9. There are still a small number of places available, if you know someone who might be interested please contact Birte Rohloff on 0207 502 4714 or via email here.

All that remains is for me to wish you all an enjoyable, relaxing and re-invigorating summer with your families.

Yours sincerely

Mr P Hollingum
Executive Director
