The end of term and the end of our third year at the Courtyard is here. This has been our first full year and it has been a busy one.
Academically, I am very pleased to inform you that all of the students have made good progress this year. Early next week you will receive your child’s End of Year report. It was a real pleasure to read the comments by the teachers and to share these with you. All of our students are on track to achieve the academic qualifications which have been set for them. We are also in the process of evaluating the targets and setting higher ones as the progress has exceeded our expectations. This is a real credit to your children and to my staff who work tirelessly to provide the best possible holistic education.
I am pleased to inform you all that we are moving to our new Courtyard building over the Summer. We are thankful to Hope Church Islington for providing us with our temporary accommodation for so long. It was never intended for us to be in St David’s Church for an additional two years and I thank the pupils and the staff for their patience during this period of unsettlement. Our new purpose-built facility is based in the grounds of St Mary Magdalene Church and can be accessed from Holloway Road and Liverpool Road. I will send out more detailed instructions with the reports for you all to best prepare your children for the move. If, after receiving the information, you have further questions, please do not hesitate in contacting me via email.
Additional news is that, unfortunately, Mr Jonny Birkett and Mr Kweku Falconer are leaving the Courtyard team at the end of this academic year. They have been a real asset to the staff team and a supportive and guiding influence for the students. Jonny has very much enjoyed his time with us and is sad to be leaving. He is heading off to begin his teacher qualification and my hope is that I can persuade him to come back to us after his studies. Kweku has been our gentle giant! He has been a huge influence in the school, both to staff and pupils. He is leaving us to set up an IT consultancy programme and to care for his three sons.
I am happy to announce that Ms Katherine Earle will be joining the school team in September as our Deputy Head for Teaching and Learning. She is an experienced Secondary school English teacher and will be leading the English delivery at the school. Also, Mr Keith Thorogood will be joining us in September as our lead maths teacher. He has a wealth of experience of working in mainstream secondary school and special ASD schools.
Finally, please note that the new Academic Year will begin on Monday 5 September for all pupils. The day starts as normal at 8:40am.
I hope you all have a restful summer and I look forward to seeing you all in September in our new building.
