End of autumn term

19 December 2016

Dear parents/carers

This letter marks the end of the Autumn term at the Courtyard. It has been a very busy term, but I believe a successful one. We have introduced a number of new elements to our curriculum offer to ensure that we are delivering a tailored curriculum to suit the needs of each individual child. This includes AS Level English and BTEC Work Skills. We are also working with a number of local businesses to provide meaningful and relevant to support our oldest students as they consider their transition into higher education or a form of employment. All of these additions have been extremely successful and have enriched the learning of the students.

There have been many successes this term, the Shakespeare Festival performance of Julius Caesar and a winner in the SMMA photography competition to name but two. However, I am most pleased and proud of the relationships that are forming between the students and the way they respectfully interact with each other. We regularly have visitors to the Courtyard and they always comment on the calm, peaceful environment and the politeness and good manners of the students. I am also pleased to inform you that the vast majority of students have outstanding attendance for the term. This is a real achievement and is testament to the dedication of students and you, their parents. I thank you for your continued support in this area.

Please find enclosed with this letter a copy of your child’s report. It provides details on your child’s academic progress this term, their strengths and the areas that will be a focus next term in order to help your child make the maximum progress. The Courtyard curriculum is designed to provide a balance of learning, covering all areas which a Courtyard student needs to order to be ready to live actively within the community. If you have any questions about any of the content within the report, please contact your child’s key worker who will endeavour to answer your questions.

Finally, please note that the school will reopen on Monday 9 January 2016 at the usual time of 8:30am. Referring to your child’s timetable, this will be Week B so please take note if your child requires any specific equipment on that day.

From myself and all of the staff at the Courtyard, I wish you a restful Christmas break and a very happy new year.

Yours faithfully

Deborah Shepherd
