Courtyard students win praise at Shakespeare Schools Festival

25 October 2017

Katherine Healy, Deputy:Teaching and Learning, writes:

Once again, The Courtyard took part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival this year.

The students had expressed a desire to do a comedy for a change, having performed Macbeth in 2015 and Julius Caesar in 2016.

So, on Wednesday 18 October, The Merchant of Venice was performed to a full house audience at The Pleasance Theatre in Islington.

The actors received plenty of laughs for a truly excellent performance, but also an understated acknowledgement of the deeper messages at the heart of the play about prejudice against those who are different; quite a poignant theme in these current times.

The praise heaped on the whole cast by not only the audience but also the organisers of the festival were gratefully and proudly received, again demonstrating the talent and commitment of the young people at The Courtyard.
